From the bright lights of New York City, to the white sand beaches of Miami, to the monuments and museums of Washington D.C there is an incredible number of things to see and do in North America’s cities. Many are located on the eastern side of the continent and together with direct flights from the UK it makes a short break to these destinations a great option.
Below are just some of the cities in the USA and Canada that we can put together a city break to, or include as part of a wider holiday to either of these two amazing countries.
Located in the French speaking Canadian province of Quebec, a visit to Montreal offers the chance to take in the historic old town, the cosmopolitan city centre as well as Notre Dame Island where the Formula 1 Grand Prix takes place each year.
Canada’s largest city offers plenty to see and do. A trip to the top of the CN Tower is a must, along with an excursion to nearby Niagara Falls. A visit to Toronto Island Park is also well worth a visit for fantastic views of the Toronto skyline and to enjoy the greenery and wide- open spaces. Toronto also offers some of the best shopping in the whole of North America.
One of our favourite American cities, Boston is a great place to spend a few days. Here you can learn about the history of the city by walking the Freedom Trail, sample a tasty clam chowder at Quincy Market, hit the shops along the fashionable Newbury Street or relax in Boston Common.
Boston is also a great place to take in a sporting event with a major league baseball team, the famous Red Sox, an NHL ice hockey team, the Boston Bruins and an NBA basketball team, the Boston Celtics all playing their home games in the city. If American Football is more your thing, the New England Patriots are based a short distance outside the city.
The city may never sleep but you may need to! We can find you the ideal hotel to use as a base to explore this fascinating city. From the world-famous attractions including the Empire State Building, Central Park and the Statue of Liberty to lesser known places well worth a visit such as up- and-coming Brooklyn, the High Line and the East Village you will not be bored when visiting New York. And then there are the numerous museums to consider as well as great shopping opportunities along the iconic Fifth Avenue.
This city really has a lot to offer. As the capital city of the USA, here you can take in the impressive sights of the White House and the Capitol Building along with the many monuments that are found throughout the city. Washington is a very green city with the National Mall running through its centre. Along each side of the National Mall, are the numerous Smithsonian museums, including the National Air and Space Museum and the National Museum of American History, all of which are free to enter.
A fantastic city to visit, especially if beach life and the party scene are your thing. The South Beach area, famous for its Art Deco buildings is a great place to eat and drink whilst enjoying views of the white sandy beach and the ocean and is the perfect spot to watch the colourful residents of this part of the city pass by.
Away from the beach, Little Cuba is well worth a visit as is the nearby Everglades where you can go in search of alligators aboard an airboat.
Slightly further afield but still close enough to visit on a city break are the cities of Chicago and New Orleans, so if you are keen for some deep pan pizza or wanting to experience great live music then these could be the places for you.
