At Just Journey we have been debating what we feel are the best views on offer for those visiting the USA. It’s such a diverse country with scenery like no where else on earth contrasting with iconic city skylines. We thought we would share what we feel are the Top 10 Views in the USA.
Made famous in the sitcom Frasier (are we showing our age!), the Seattle skyline features the iconic Space Needle amongst the skyscrapers with the spectacular backdrop of a snow-capped Mount Rainier in the distance.
- New England
Specifically, the spectacular autumn colours that are best viewed whilst exploring the White Mountains of New Hampshire and the Green Mountains of Vermont.
Here you can enjoy the autumn colours whilst taking in quaint New England towns and villages and enjoying maple syrup, a delicacy in this part of the world!
- Pittsburgh – PNC Park
Is there anything that conjures up the classic feel of America more than taking in a baseball game. At the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates you also get a great view to go with the game and your hotdog, with the Allegheny River and downtown Pittsburgh visible from your seat!
- Crater Lake, Oregon
Heading back to the Pacific North West region of the USA takes us to the stunning Crater Lake. The lake formed over 7000 years ago following a volcanic eruption which triggered the collapse of the mountain peak. Rainfall and snow created the lake at the top of the volcano which must be seen to be believed.
Head to the Skydeck on the 103rd floor of the Willis Tower, the highest observation deck in the USA for spectacular views of Chicago.
See the city and its other skyscrapers beneath you, with views for 50 miles and across fours states possible on a clear day. Marvel at the vastness of Lake Michigan on a glass balcony if you dare!
- Yellowstone National Park
Okay, so this one is more a collection of spectacular views that are found within Yellowstone National Park. Here you will witness Mother Nature in her full glory with snow-capped mountains, lakes, abundant wildlife and geothermal hot pools and geysers all to be found here.
- Las Vegas
Where else can you see the Eiffel Tower, a volcano spewing lava, fountains dancing to music, the New York skyline and an Egyptian pyramid all at the same time!
- Grand Canyon
At 277 miles long, 18 miles wide at its widest point and a mile deep, the Grand Canyon is a natural wonder on a massive scale. Standing on the rim viewing rock formations that have been carved out by the River Colorado over a period of 5-6 million years is truly one of the world’s most impressive sights.
- Yosemite National Park
Again, this one is a collection of views on offer in the majestic Yosemite National Park rather than one specific vista.
Here you will stand in awe as huge granite mountains tower above you with spectacular waterfalls pouring over them down to the meadows and lakes of the valley floor.
- New York
One of, if not the most recognisable city skylines in the world, the skyscrapers of Manhattan make an impressive and iconic sight.
Our recommendation for getting the best view is to head to the Top of the Rock at the Rockefeller Centre for views that include the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty to one side and Central Park to the other.
Here are a few others that didn’t make the main list, but are certainly worth a mention.
The City by the Bay offers fantastic views and our recommendation would be to head to Twin Peaks area just outside the downtown area of the city. There are walking trails to the top of the hills that overlook the city skyline with views of the Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge beyond.
Alternatively hit the water for a view of the city from the Pacific Ocean, getting up close to the iconic island of Alcatraz as you do.
